NZB Ready to Run Entries Close Today

9 August 2013

Entries for New Zealand Bloodstock’s Ready to Run Sale, the most successful sale of two-year-olds in Australasia, close at the end of business today 9 August.

The prodigious success of the Ready to Run Sale continues to grow each year, with Sale records broken for a second consecutive year in 2012, as the quality of horse produced continues to reach new heights with three Group 1 winners stemming from the Sale this season.

Linton - Stradbroke

Ready to Run graduate Linton wins the 2013 Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap.

With a reputation for providing well-educated young horses full of potential, combined with the rigorous safeguards NZB has in place to ensure the integrity of this Sale remains paramount, buyer demand continues to grow.

Last year saw a record breaking Sale thanks to the strength of the buying bench. The large international attendance saw 75% of horses knocked down to buyers from eight offshore locations. Hong Kong made their presence felt by securing eight of the top 20 Lots with trainers Michael Chang, Ricky Yiu and Dennis Yip featuring in the top 10 buyers.

Turnover reached a record high last year of $17.85 million, an increase of $1.5 million on the previous record set in 2011. The average price also reached a new record of $72,865 again eclipsing the record set in 2011. Since 2010 the average price at the Sale has increased a significant 31.7%.

There have been 90 stakes wins in the past five seasons from the Sale at an average of 18 per season. These stakes wins have been recorded in five individual countries showcasing the international commodity offered at the Sale.

Standout performances from Ready to Run graduates this season were headlined by Linton (Galileo), emphatic victor of the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap in Brisbane. He turned in a freakish performance to win one of Australia’s most acclaimed 1400m races.

Sangster (Savabeel) made the transition from classic-winning three-year-old to top-class four-year-old stayer as he swept all before him in the New Zealand autumn, capturing the Group 1 Waikato International Stakes (2000m), Group 1 Auckland Cup (3200m) and Group 2 Avondale Cup (2400m) in a vintage campaign.

Budding star Nashville (Darci Brahma) was victorious against a star-studded field in the Group 1 Haunui Farm WFA Classic (1400m) at Otaki, signalling his status as a rising star of New Zealand racing.

In Asia the Sale produced stakes winners in Hong Kong, Singapore and Macau. Top-class Hong Kong miler Glorious Days (Hussonet) duelled with fellow Karaka graduate Ambitious Dragon throughout the season, recording wins in the Group 2 HJKC Jockey Club Mile (1600m) & HK-1 Stewards Cup (1600m).

A new force to be reckoned with in Hong Kong is All You Wish (Thorn Park), named Champion Griffin this season after winning five of his first six starts in his debut season.

A leading source of Derby contenders, the Ready to Run Sale has claimed no fewer than six Derby races around the world since 2010.
