NZB Wellington Guineas Anyone’s Game

25 October 2012

Punters will get another chance to find their elect in next month’s Group 1 NZ 2000 Guineas with Saturday’s Trentham meeting hosting the $85,000 Group 2 New Zealand Bloodstock Wellington Guineas (1500m).

Saturday’s race has attracted a large field of 17 three-year-olds – 12 of which were offered in the Karaka sales ring – and most of who are vying for a coveted spot in the Group 1 NZ 2000 Guineas on 10 November.

The Group 2 NZB Wellington Guineas has been won by a host of high profile three-year-olds including Darci Brahma (Danehill) in 2005 and Jokers Wild (Black Minnaloushe) in 2006. President Lincoln (O’Reilly) won the race last year with Barside (Tobougg) victorious in 2010.

The field will see five stakes winners in search of the Group 2 spoils with Move Faster (Keeper), Swiper the Fox (Align), Platinum Kingdom (Magnus), Misstrum (Stratum) and Twilight Granita (Iffraaj) all successful at listed level coming into the Guineas.

Adding to the intrigue, Neo (One Cool Cat), Batman (Falkirk), Silverdale (Castledale), Zinko (Shinko King) and Perfect Start (Perfectly Ready) have all placed at stakes level coming into the Group 2 feature, ensuring that this year’s NZB Wellington Guineas is a wide open affair.

The field will see the progressive colt Wowowow (Thano) make his stakes debut and five fillies take to the course, headed by stakes winners Misstrum and Twilight Granita.
