Pedigree Potential –NZB Ready to Run – Nicks that Click

A quality packed catalogue for the 2026 NZB Ready to Run Sale is now online and in the lead up to the sale we’ll go looking each week for some horses of interest that jump out on pedigree for various reasons.

The Sha Tin meeting on Sunday featured three smart winners sourced from this sale – Megastar Heart (Star Turn $825,000 sale-topper in 2023, now a winner of four from nine starts), Speedy Power (Farnan $150,000 in 2024, second HK winner for James Cummings) and Ka Ying Lightning (NZ) (All Too Hard $200,000 in 2024).

The David Hall trained Ka Ying Lightning is now undefeated with three wins from three starts after scorching the turf over 1000m in 56.16 seconds and he has a half-brother to be offered at the sale next month.

Lot 256 offered by Apex Bloodstock is a gelding by Hello Youmzain (Fr) from Floating Heart and like his half-brother Ka Ying Lightning has shown good pace in his breeze clocking 10.68 seconds.

Progressive Chris Waller trained mare Soverato (NZ) was just off the top staying 3YO fillies last season, but powered to the line at Flemington on Saturday to land her first stakes victory in the Group III MVRC Tesio Stakes (2000m).

The win added Black Type to the page for Lot 360, a Shocking gelding offered by Pertab Racing from Macaroon Miss, who is an unraced half-sister by Proisir to Soverato.

The Group I VRC Victoria Derby is fast approaching and it can be tough to find a contender that is actually bred to do the job, so we’ve had a look at the Savabeel’s in this sale and highlighted two with the genetic blueprint to go far… literally!

Lot 33 Gelding Savabeel x Smart Thinking, by O’Reilly – Ohukia Lodge.

Full brother to a pair of winners and dam is a sibling to the dams of two G1 Oaks winners in El Patroness and Provocative.

Lot 204 Colt Savabeel x Chloe (Fr), by Siyouni – BMD Bloodstock

First foal of really interesting French bred mare Chloe (Fr), who won at 2200m in France, but comes from an Australian family as she is a grand-daughter of blue hen Catshaan, the dam of G1 Oaks winners Abbey Marie and Absolutely as well as Runaway, who won the G3 Geelong Cup and was third in the G1 SA Derby.

Abbey Marie will have a runner in the Victoria Derby on Saturday with her Maurice (Jpn) colt Cormier likely to back up from his third placing in the G1 Spring Champion Stakes last Saturday.
