Pedigree Updates Enhance NZB May Sale

29 April 2011

A host of positive pedigree updates have been notched up for New Zealand Bloodstock's May Sale since the catalogue went to print, with many adding further appeal to the new Horses-in-Training section.

The Horses-in Training session offers a quality selection of 50 racehorses set to go under the hammer on Day Two of the National Weanling, Broodmare & Mixed Bloodstock Sale (2 - 4 May), providing significant opportunities for those looking to couple racing interests with future breeding prospects.

Set to be sold at Lot 396 in the Horses-in-Training session is the Sadler's Wells entire Doctor Fremantle. Already a Group 2 winner of the Newmarket Princess of Wales Stakes in England, his family continues to improve, with his relative Stand to Gain (Hawk Wing) winning the Group 1 Sydney Cup last Saturday. Like Doctor Fremantle, Stand to Gain is an imported galloper, and offers a timely reminder of the success that Northern Hemisphere horses can achieve in Australasia.

Amongst the 'HIT' offering is also Lot 378 from Letham Throughbreds, a gelding by Falkirk out of Striking Sneek. A trial winner when the catalogue went to print, now named Court A Sneek, the three-year-old has since placed third on debut in the 1200 metre event at Trentham on 16 April.

The filly by Don Eduardo at Lot 412 - Miadonna, from Oxford Thoroughbreds - has finished second in her last two starts, most recently a $5,000 maiden over 1600 metres at Te Teko on 7 April.

At Lot 388, being offered for unreserved sale by The Oaks Stud is Whitewash, a Traditionally half-sister to the Group 2 winner Keep The Passion (Keeper). She placed fourth over 2100 metres at Counties on 10 April.

Lot 390 from Kilgraven Lodge, a gelding by Pure Theatre that was offered at the 2010 Ready to Run Sale, ran second in his first trial on 19 April at Cambridge over 800 metres.

Lot 405, Karaka Jack, the gelding by young sire Darci Brahma, ran sixth on debut against a very competitive field of 14 that included previous race winners, in a $15,000 open two-year-old event over 1200 metres on 9 April.

Each horse in the new Horses-in-Training session has raced, trialled or breezed up for the NZB Ready to Run Sale in the current season, and each entry is accompanied by a video of its track performance on the NZB website.

There have been some significant pedigree updates outside the Horses-in-Training session.

The mare from Bradbury Park, Tenko at Lot 482, is a half-sister to Saturday's Group 2 winner of the Emancipation Stakes in Sworn to Secrecy (Keeper). She has been served by Keeper so any foal produced from the covering will be a three-quarter relation to Sworn to Secrecy.

The Savabeel mare Molly Coco at Lot 679 from Dormello Stud (as agent) is now a full-sister to a stakes winner in Dowager Queen (Savabeel). An easy winner of the Listed Champagne Stakes at Ellerslie, she is also Group 1 placed behind Anabandana in the Group 1 Manawatu Sires Produce Stakes. Dowager Queen holds a nomination for the Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes in Brisbane in June.

The filly by Royal Gem from Westbury Stud at Lot 170 is out of a half-sister to Atomic Force (Danehill Dancer) the recent winner of the Group 1 Galaxy Handicap at Randwick.

Bountiful Thoroughbreds' Zed colt at Lot 46 is also now a half-sister to a stakes winner in Jasminka (Sakura Seeking) who won the Listed Bright Shadow Quality in Doomben over 1200 metres.
