Penultimate Race in Southern Filly Series

8 April 2005

This weekend Otago Racing Club will host the penultimate race of the New Zealand Bloodstock Southern Filly Of The Year Series at Wingatui. The New Zealand Bloodstock Airfreight Stakes is a $30,000 listed event over 1600m

Current joint-leader Senorita Dane (Senor Pete x Snadame) will line-up in Sunday's event following a disappointing ninth in the New Zealand Bloodstock Insurance Stakes last weekend. The filly has won three races in her career, all at stakes level, but she failed to fire on Saturday in what was the second leg of the Southern Filly Series.

Other notable entrants include the Insurance Stakes place-getters, Royal Miss (Volksraad x Bashful Lady) and Little Tee (Volksraad x Miss Tee). Royal Miss will certainly relish the extra 200 metres in this weekend's race whilst Little Tee will face the mile for the first time.

Lance O'Sullivan-trained Belle Of Marju (Marju x Centri Belle) makes her way south after six starts in the North Island this year. The filly has had two wins and raced in Group company, where her best result was a fourth in the Group 3 Eulogy Stakes.

Probably the best chance of the local runners is Vital Satin (Yamanin Vital x Pure Satin), who is prepared by the Anderton training partnership. The filly is still a maiden but has been placed in four of her six starts including a third in the Southland Guineas behind Fiscal Madness.

The current standings in the series are:

Horse Points
Go Faster 7
Senorita Dane 7
Innate 3
Royal Miss 3
Blooming 1
Little Tee 1

The final race of the series will be held at Riccarton Park on 30 April when the fillies step up to 2000 metres in the Listed New Zealand Bloodstock Warstep Stakes.
