Quality Underpins NZB’s RTR Sale as Breeze Ups Conclude

The New Zealand Bloodstock Ready to Run Sale Breeze Ups concluded today with another productive day at Te Rapa Racecourse that saw 176 ‘ready to run’ horses gallop down the straight.

The two-year-olds worked in near identical conditions to yesterday with the track remaining at a Good 3 with a strong wind throughout the day.

Breezing up today was the full-brother to recent stakes-winning Karaka graduate Celtic Tiger (NZ) (O’Reilly), a Group 1 VRC Derby hopeful, catalogued in the Sale at Lot 362 from Bruce and Maureen Harvey’s Ascot Farm, clocking a time of 9.91 seconds – the quickest time of the two-day event.
Partnered with the quick son of O’Reilly was Ascot Farm’s Lot 380, a gelding by another Champion Sire in Exceed and Excel who dashed down the 200m in a time of 9.93 seconds.
Among the impressive Breeze Ups was a colt by well-credentialed first season sire Smart Missile catalogued at Lot 115, recording his breeze in 10.16 seconds from Sam Beatson’s Riversley Park.
Also catching the eye from Riversley Park was Lot 61, a Savabeel colt from a Group 1 winning family, and Lot 157, a gelding by New Zealand’s second leading sire of two-year-olds Per Incanto, posting a time of 10.77 seconds and 10.75 seconds respectively.
Regal Farm, the preparer of three-time Group 1 winner Sale graduate Mongolian Khan (Holy Roman Emperor), had a smart gelding by More Than Ready, Lot 258, gallop in a time of 10.64 seconds.
Regular two-year-old preparer Kilgravin Lodge has the largest draft in this year’s catalogue and among their juveniles today was Lot 292, a gelding by Australian sire Beneteau, who ran a time of 10.92 seconds.
A colt by young kiwi boom sire Tavistock, Lot 329, also breezed up with ease today, stopping the clock at 10.82 seconds for Diamond Lodge, the leading vendor at NZB’s Ready to Run Sale in 2013.
Earlier in the day, a dead heat was recorded by a pair of colts by Champion New Zealand Sire Savabeel, Lot 4 and Lot 23, working impressively in tandem, clocking a time of 10.40 seconds, both from Mana Park.

Times were even across both days of the Breeze Ups. The Day 1 average time was 10.95 seconds with the average time for the second day (today) at 11.08 seconds.
At the completion of the two-day Breeze Ups, NZB’s Bloodstock Sales Manager Danny Rolston was pleased with the results across both days.
“The past two days we have seen a fantastic array of two-year-olds by Australasia’s leading sires,” commented Rolston. “We are confident that potential buyers will agree that this year’s selection is the strongest ever.
“Credit must go to all vendors involved for the high standard of preparation that makes the Breeze Ups a success.”
