Racetrack Success for NZB's August Sales

23 July 2012

New Zealand Bloodstock's forthcoming sales - the Winter Mixed Bloodstock Sale (3 August) and South Island Sale of 2YOs & Mixed Bloodstock (10 August) - both registered racetrack success over the weekend.

South Island Sale graduate Wealthy Man continued his hot form on Saturday taking his ninth career victory in Macau in the M$470,000 The Kalamoun (1400m) by two-and-a-half lengths, equalling the class record time of 1 minute 20.2 seconds.

A $12,000 purchase by Glenn Old at the 2007 South Island Sale of Two-Year-Olds & Mixed Bloodstock, Wealthy Man (Danzighill x Tatts M' Name) has been a solid performer in Macau since his debut in December 2009.

Wealthy Man is trained by Stephen Chow and claimed his first stakes victory at his last start winning the M$700,000 Listed Macau Directors' Cup (1500m). The victory saw him defeat the Macau Derby winner Luen Yat Forever (Honours List) who was Group 1 placed in Australia this season in the Toorak Handicap.

Raced by Lau Fu Wing & Tse Kam Po, Wealthy Man has now won over $520,000 from his 29 career starts which have resulted in nine wins and seven placings including a third in the Listed Macau Sprint Trophy (1200m).

Bred by Abingdon Thoroughbreds, Wealthy Man was offered by White Robe Lodge. The Dunedin based stud will offer 12 two-year-olds in this year's Sale by their resident sire Gallant Guru, sire of the 2012 New Zealand Bloodstock Southern Filly of the Year Ortem Fire.

The Winter Mixed Bloodstock Sale registered success with Sale entrants winning two races on the card at Ruakaka on Saturday.

To be offered at Lot 70, the Michael Moroney & Chad Ormsby trained Pentango (Pentire x Close Embrace) claimed her third career win at the meeting over 1600 metres.

To be offered as a racing and breeding proposition, Pentango is a stakes performed mare from the Zabeel mare Close Embrace and is a half-sister to stakes winner Volcada (Stravinsky). Pentire's daughters have made a good start at stud producing five stakes winners including Group 1 winner Shoot Out (High Chaparral).

The Graeme & Mark Sanders trained Romario (Captain Rio x Wink at Me) claimed the third victory of his career over 1400 metres at Ruakaka. A five-year-old son of Captain Rio, Romario will be offered at Lot 72 in the Winter Mixed Bloodstock Sale.
