Savabeel's Success Continues in Fine Fashion

The Cox Plate winner Savabeel is running hot, and Saturday saw his stakes success continue unabated with his daughter Scarlett Lady winning the Group 2 Travis Stakes (2000m) in impressive style.
Trained by Graeme & Debbie Rogerson, Scarlett Lady (Savabeel x On Call) has taken her winning streak to four in a row, with a brilliant performance against the older mares in the Cambridge Jockey Club's Group 2 feature.
A last start winner of the Listed Manawatu Breeders Stakes (2000m), she came from the back of the field in transit and off the pace in the straight and, with a powerful turn-of-foot, romped past Dancing Jess and fellow NZB graduate Floria to win by one-and-a-quarter lengths.
A classy filly, Scarlett Lady has shown that she can win on all footing, with her last four consecutive wins coming off good to heavy going. The win also brought up James McDonald's 171st victory of the season, with Lisa Crop's record of 197 wins in a season getting closer with every meeting.
Selected at Karaka by Sydney-based owner Max Whitby, Scarlett Lady has earned a tilt at the leading fillies races in Queensland, the $175,000 Doomben Roses, before eyeing the Group 1 Queensland Oaks.
Bought for $25,000 at the 2009 Karaka Premier Sale from Waikato Stud, Scarlett Lady has now won four of her eight starts and has earned over $110,000 in stakes.
Just one race earlier on the card, the NZB graduate Shez Sinsational (Ekaar x Original Sin) smashed her rivals over the 2000m of the $20,000 NZB Insurance Stakes, winning by an easy six lengths. Trained by Allan Sharrock, she will also be heading to Queensland and targeting the Doomben Roses and Queensland Oaks.
Waikato Stud will be offering 30 weanlings and 16 broodmares unreserved at the 2011 NZB May Sale.
Savabeel has a draft of 19 weanlings in this week's National Weanling, Broodmare & Mixed Bloodstock Sale, with six in Graeme Rogerson and Denise Howell's Dormello Unreserved Dispersal Sale, including a three-quarter-brother to the Cox Plate winner Maldivian which was just purchased by Max Whitby for $90,000.
