Shower Of Roses, Simply Sensational

25 February 2003

Shower of Roses (Zabeel x Marquise) has now won 2 from 2 after a sensational finish in the Australian Ladies Variety Association Handicap (A$22,000, 1550m) at Sydney's Canterbury Park on Sunday.

Under a hold, Shower of Roses cleaned up her competition finishing a massive 13 lengths clear of her nearest rival Zadiamond (Zabeel x Argyle) with Spinning Charm (Spinning World x Charmed Life) in third position.

Trained by Gai Waterhouse, Shower of Roses topped New Zealand Bloodstock's 2001 Premier Yearling Sale at a price of $1,450,000 from the draft of Cambridge Stud. She was purchased by Tik Tik Trinidad, on behalf of Mr Eduardo Cojuangco of Gooree Stud.

With Shower of Roses showing such potential, Mr Eduardo Cojuangco could be looking at another Derby prospect after his success in the 2002 Gr.1 AJC San Miguel Australian Derby with Don Eduardo (Zabeel x Diamond Lover). Don Eduardo topped New Zealand Bloodstock's 2000 Premier Yearling Sale with a record price of $3.6 million.

After taking time in preparing Shower of Roses for racing, the Waterhouse stable are touted to have either the AJC Oaks or AJC Australian Derby in their sights in mind for the filly.
