Skirmish Seals Guineas

26 October 2008

Three-year-old filly Skirmish became the first stakes winner for her young sire Le Bec Fin when she took out the Group 2 $100,000 New Zealand Bloodstock Wellington Guineas (1500m) at Trentham on Saturday.

Bred by J Bull and trained by Adrian Bull for her owners H L Bull & J P McLean, Skirmish has had just four raceday outings, including a creditable fourth behind Keeper Special followed by a deserved maiden victory at her last start.

Out of the Kingdom Bay mare Jollify, Skirmish is from the first crop of Le Bec Fin, a half-brother to champion racemare, Ethereal (Rhythm).

By Tale of the Cat, Le Bec Fin is from top performing Sir Tristram mare, Romanee Conti, and was bred by Peter and Philip Vela. Romanee Conti was the Hong Kong International Cup and G3 STC Queen of the Turf S. winner, with four other Stakes and Listed races amongst the seven career wins to her credit. She also placed second to champion Octagonal in the Queen Elizabeth Randwick Stakes.

Lightly raced, Le Bec Fin was a scorching winner on debut over 1000m in course record time, and placed in his other two career starts. He now stands at Mark & Denny Baker's Hallmark Stud for $2,500.
