South African Group 2 Winner Out of Lady Dehere

3 December 2008

Cambridge Stud's Karaka Premier Sale entrant Lot 77 received an exciting update over the weekend with the filly's half-brother Oracy stealing the Group 2 Unitrans Dingaans (1600m) at Turffontein.

The Dingaans is a great precursor to the upcoming South African classics with South African Champions and international globetrotter's like Horse Chestnut (Fort Wood) and London News (Bush Telegraph) both having won the race, while current champion sire and racehorse Jet Master (Rakeen) ran third in the feature.

Oracy, who was bred by Sir Patrick Hogan & Lady Hogan & Maroal Services Ltd, showed great promise in his debut as a three-year-old, taking a maiden race over 1450m. In winning the Group 2, the undefeated colt adds yet another Group winner to Zabeel's prestigious list of 115 Stakes Winners, with future ambitions to join Zabeel's list of9 Derby winners including South African Derby winner Grey's Inn.

Successfully earning her keep during her racing career, Oracy and Lot 77's mother, Lady Dehere (Dehere ex Express A Smile) brought home Group 2 and Listed race victories. Now in her sixth year in the broodmare paddock, she has continued that success. In addition to Oracy, she was also recently rewarded when her promising two-year-old daughter, The Lady (Stravinsky), took the Listed Murdoch Newell Stakes (1100m) at Pukekohe Park.

Lot 77 is by the young Cambridge Stud sire Viking Ruler. During his racing career, the son of Danehill from the famous Eight Carat family won the Group 1 AJC Spring Champion Stakes.

Marcus Corban of Cambridge Stud commented on the filly, "She's big strong filly, a good type. It looks as though she'll have a lot of residual value and compliments the rest of the yearlings we have to offer."
