Starcraft's Cup Runneth Over the Oceans

If potential buyers at this year's New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sales Series need any evidence that New Zealand's bloodstock is worthy of investment, they'll certainly see it at Karaka.

"Starcraft's story is inspiring for anyone tempted by the throughbred racing world," says New Zealand Bloodstock marketing and public relations manager, Petrea Vela.

Not only will Starcraft's owner, Paul Makin, be at the Sales to tell the fairy tale of Starcraft's remarkable career, he's bringing with him Starcraft's well-earned solid gold trophy from his decisive win in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II at Newmarket in England.

"Starcraft has made dreams come true for the many people involved in his success. To have his fantastic trophy here on display is going to be really thought and dream provoking for buyers at the Sale next week," Ms Vela says.

Starcraft was bred by Garry & Mark Chittick's Waikato Stud and was sold to New Zealand bloodstock agent , Robt Dawe at the 2002 Karaka Premier Sale for just $80,000. His dam, Flying Floozie, was awarded Broodmare of the Year at New Zealand's annual Mercedes Thoroughbred Racing Awards.

Starcraft's earnings topped $2 million in a remarkable racing career including overwhelming wins in two European Group 1 events against some of the world's best milers. Those wins secured Starcraft the title of the highest rated miler in the world last season.

Paul Makin exclaimed, "I have had the greatest success of my life with a horse I bought at Karaka. If I can buy another one half as good as Starcraft it will be a thrill so I will certainly be back at Karaka this year trying."

Starcraft's cup will be on display at the Karaka sales complex from Saturday 28th January throughout the week of New Zealand Bloodstock's National Yearling Sales Series (January 30 - February 6).
