Success Continues for NZ Breds in Hong Kong

7 November 2005

In Hong Kong on Saturday, New Zealand breds once again dominated by winning six of the ten races hosted at Sha Tin, including the two biggest races of the night.

Race 4 saw NZ bred Armada (Towkay x Dance In Time) produce a first start win for trainer John Size in the Class 4 Panasonic IH Warm Jar Handicap (1200m).

In Race 7, the Class 4 Panasonic Viera Plasma TV Handicap (1800m), Million Success (Kilimanjaro x Assuage) recorded a second consecutive win for trainer David Hall. In second place was Vitality Champ (Danehill x Sierra Finch), a four year old from the now-Pencarrow Stud based mare. Festival Sale gradute, Posa (Bahhare x The Model) finished in third. Million Success was bought at the 2003 Autumn Yearling Sale for NZ$10,000 by Robbie Hewettson from Havenfield Farm. Posa was bought by Tony Williams at the 2003 Festival Yearling Sale for NZ$12,000.

In the Class 1 event of the night, The Panasonic Cup (1400m), a fast finishing Gem Of India (Defensive Play x Whakanui Heights) came from last to catch fellow NZ-bred Fifty Fifty (O'Reilly x Second Set) on the line. The NZ-bred quinella also completed two wins for trainer, John Size, with New Zealand bred horses. Bred by Tim Bodle's Whakanui Stud, Gem of India was passed in at Karaka as a yearling. Michael Stedman Bloodstock purchased Fifty Fifty at the Select Yearling Sale for NZ$55,000 from Delahunty Farm's draft.

In Race 9, the Class 2 Shun Hing Technolugy 20th Anniversary Cup (1800m), Little Avondale's resident stallion Towkay (Last Tycoon) tasted his second success of the night when Lotzatow (Towkay x Maretto) produced his third career win. A previous winner at two in New Zealand, the step up in class didn't prove any problem for the four year old who swept past his rivals for a one and a half length win.

In Race 10, 2003 Ready to Run Sale graduate, Time Supreme (O'Reilly x Brilliant Victory) won the Class 3 Panasonic Momi-Momi Massage Lounger Handicap (1600m). Successfully pin-hooked from the 2003 Select Yearling Sale by Mission Lodge, he was purchased at the Ready to Run Sale by Michael Stedman Bloodstock for NZ$105,000 and has two wins and two placings from his seven Hong Kong starts.

A second NZ-bred quinella rounded off the successful night for New Zealand horses. In the last on the card, the Class 3 Panasonic Alleru-Buster Air Purifier Handicap (1200m), the Almond Lee-trained Cannonise (End Sweep x Regal Halo) beat Danny Shum's All's Well (City On A Hill x Alot Of Music) by a length and three-quarters. Both horses were sold through New Zealand Bloodstock's sale ring, Cannonise to Mark Pilkington Bloodstock at the 2003 Premier Yearling Sale for NZ$20,000 from Rodmor Stud and All's Well at last year's Ready to Run 2YO Sale from Mission Lodge's draft for NZ$40,000.
