Successful Breeze Ups for NZB Ready to Run Sale

The second day of New Zealand Bloodstock's official Breeze Ups for the 2006 Ready to Run Sale was completed successfully today at Te Rapa.

A total of 274 horses from the 333 strong catalogue breezed up alone or in pairs over the final 200m of the Te Rapa straight. Following heavy rain earlier in the week, Thursday and Friday saw near-perfect conditions with fine weather and a penetrometer reading of 2.8 for both days.

There was an overall very high standard of horses breezing up this year, with a well-educated and well-presented selection of two-year-olds over both days. Marketing Manager, Petrea Vela, commented, "Many of those who attended the breeze ups were impressed with the standard of professionalism seen at Te Rapa, which is a credit to those who have prepared this year's Sale horses. We are very pleased with the way the Breeze Ups have gone and would expect a lot of success to come out of this Sale judging from what we have seen here over the past two days."

The fastest time of the Breeze Ups was recorded by Lot 175, a filly by Pins out of Grosvenor mare, Libre, consigned by Ardsley Stud. The filly produced a cracking run to clock 10.01 seconds over the furlong. Pins, part of Waikato Stud's on form line-up of stallions, is the sire of dual Group 1 winner Legs (River Century) and of joint favourite in tomorrow's Group 1 Tattersalls Cox Plate (2040m), El Segundo (Palos Verdes). He is represented by seven in this year's Sale.

The second fastest time was recorded by Lot 277, a bay No Excuse Needed colt out of Satonda, a three-quarter sister to River Century, the dam of Legs. Producing a time of 10.09 seconds he is just one of many of the well prepared selection of breeze up horses from the Munro family's Halo Farm. No Excuse Needed, a son of Machiavellian, is also a Waikato Stud sire with his first crop selling for an average of NZ$141,458 at this year's Karaka Premier Yearling Sale. No Excuse Needed will be represented by five horses at the Sale in November.

Yesterday's fastest time was recorded by Lot 322 on account of Te Runga Stud. The Al Akbar colt out the Gaius mare, Tracy Bee, covered the 200m in 10.31 seconds. Al Akbar is a proven sire in Singapore, currently sitting fourth on their leading sires table. He has six catalogued for the Ready to Run Sale.
