1 November 2015

Karaka graduate The Centenary (NZ) (Mastercraftsman) celebrated her first stakes success yesterday in the R250,000 Group 3 Yellowwood Handicap (1800m) at Turffontein.

Making her racing debut as a juvenile for trainer Ormond Ferraris, The Centenary resumed to racing as a three-year-old in Mike de Kock’s stable where she won fresh up over 2000m. A winner of five races from 15 starts, The Centenary’s wins have been from 1800m to 2600m.

Starting from barrier 6 in a 12-horse field, Randall Simons rode The Centenary to a clear victory, winning by one-and-a-half-lengths over Marmalady (Duke of Marmalade) and Bilateral (Lateral) who finished in second and third respectively.

The four-year-old mare has earned over R460,000 in prizemoney for owner Mr W Chow.

Bryce and Ginger Tankard’s Waikato Bloodstock purchased The Centenary at New Zealand Bloodstock’s 2013 Select Sale for $40,000 from her breeders Windsor Park Stud.

The daughter of Mastercraftsman is out of Diamantaire (Montjeu), a half-sister to stakes-winner Philidor (Chief’s Crown), winner of the Listed City Tattersall’s Club Cup. She is from the same family as 10-time Group 1 winner Octagonal (Zabeel).
