Two Stakes Races in a Row for Guyno (NZ)

8 March 2011

The WATC Derby winner Guyno (NZ) is in a purple patch of form, winning his second stakes race in succession on Saturday in the A$115,000 Group 3 Boag's Lord Reims Stakes (2600m).

Showing that bullish fighting spirit which saw him win the Listed Mornington Cup (2400m) at his last start, Guyno (O'Reilly x River Century) refused to lie down when he looked to be well covered in the final furlong, and fought back gamely to put his nose in front to beat Maunatrice at the post.

The Lou Luciani trained son of O'Reilly has been a busy campaigner this season with Saturday's win coming at his ninth outing. The seven-year-old has shown no signs of slowing down either, winning or placing in no fewer than six of these occasions.

In a career spanning 50 starts, Guyno is a winner of eight, six of these at stakes level - including the Group 1 Western Australian Derby - and has placed 17 times. He has contested races including the Melbourne Cup, Metropolitan Handicap, Railway Stakes, Kingston Town Classic, the Perth Cup and the Cox Stakes to name a few, and has earned his connections over A$1.2 million in stakes.

From a strong family, Guyno is from the 2007 NZ Broodmare of the Year River Century (Centaine) and is a half-brother to the dual Group 1 winner Legs. River Century is a three-quarter sister to the Group 1 winner and NZB graduate Sixty Seconds and a full-sister to the Group winners Firetaine and Arletty.

Guyno was bred by Waikato Stud and is owned by Dr PA Richardson, Mrs S Richardson, Mr JBW Court and Mrs HPM Court and was offered by Waikato Stud at the 2005 Karaka Premier Sale.
