The Karaka Million Just Got Bigger!
The Karaka Million Series just got bigger and better with announcement of two lucrative changes for yearlings being entered at Karaka 2014.
The $1,000,000 Karaka Million for two-year-olds - New Zealand's richest race - remains New Zealand Bloodstock's highlight incentive race for graduates of its National Yearling Sales Series. Hosted at the Auckland Racing Club's Ellerslie racecourse at a Twilight Meeting on the eve of the Karaka Premier Sale, the race is run over 1200m and carries Restricted Listed status.
In addition, every horse entered in the Karaka Million is now eligible for a richer $250,000 Karaka 3YO Mile the following season (2016) plus the new $100,000 Karaka Stayers Cup.

The Race Towards the 2015 Karaka Million!
The Order of Entry for the 2015 Karaka Million will be determined by prize-money won so the young horses are hunting valuable earnings around the country as they try to earn themselves a coveted start. This logo (right) displayed on the nominations and fields produced by NZTR denotes that the horse is qualified for a start in the Karaka Million (two-year-olds) or Karaka 3YO Mile (three-year-olds).
2015 $100,000 Karaka 3YO Mile
The $100,000 Karaka 3YO Mile was upgraded to Restricted Listed status in 2013 and the race is open to graduates of the 2013 National Yearling Sales Series who entered the Karaka Million Series in 2013.
The Order of Entry for the 2015 Karaka 3YO Mile will be determined by NZTR domestic ratings - those with the lowest ratings will be eliminated first until the safety limit is reached. In the event of horses being on equal ratings these horses will be separated by the Handicapper based on each of the horse's last three starts.
From 2016, this race will be run for a stake of $250,000, for all three-yearolds entered as yearlings in January 2014.
New $100,000 Karaka Stayers Cup
The new $100,000 Karaka Stayers Cup was added to the Karaka Million Race Series in 2014. The race is held over 2200m at the Karaka Million Twilight Meeting at Ellerslie Racecourse.
The 2015 event is open to all Karaka Yearling Sale graduates whether they have ever been entered in the Karaka Million or not. All Karaka Yearling Sale graduates will be eligible to enter the race in 2015, 2016 and 2017.
From 2018, this race will be restricted to Karaka Million Series eligible horses, with this year’s yearlings then five-year-olds.
The Order of Entry for the 2014 Karaka Stayers Cup will be determined by NZTR domestic ratings - those with the lowest ratings will be eliminated first until the safety limit is reached. In the event of horses being on equal ratings these horses will be separated by the Handicapper based on each of the horse's last three starts.
