Savabeel four-year-old River Treasure (NZ), who was sold at Karaka as a weanling and a yearling, scored a highly impressive win in Saturday’s M$750,000 Listed Macau Guineas (1500m).

Ridden by Martin Cangas for trainer Cheong Sio Hun, River Treasure dropped to the rear of the 13-horse field before storming home down the outside of the track to win by an ever-widening two and three-quarter lengths.

Owned by King Ho, River Treasure has now had 34 starts for six wins, five seconds and seven thirds. He has earned more than M$1.5 million in prize-money.

The Guineas was the first leg of Macau’s Triple Crown. River Treasure will now be set for the second leg, the M$2.6 million Macau Derby (1800m) on May 20. The third leg is the M$800,000 Macau Gold Cup (1800m) on July 23.

River Treasure was bred by Waikato Stud and is out of the Pins mare Dita von Teese (NZ), a daughter of the stakes-winning College Chapel mare Lookatmelads (NZ).

Waikato Stud offered River Treasure as part of their weanling draft at the 2013 National Weanling, Broodmare & Mixed Bloodstock Sale where he sold to Hallmark Stud for $40,000.

He returned as a yearling in the 2014 Select Sale, selling to King Ho for $32,000.
