$60,000 Select Sale purchase Beauty Generation (NZ) (Road to Rock) capped a dream season with two awards during Friday night’s Champion Awards ceremony, including the title of Hong Kong Horse of the Year.

Formerly a Group One performer in Australia under his previous name Montaigne, the gelding had eight starts during the 2017-18 season, all at stakes level, for five wins – the HK$3 million Celebration Cup (1400m), the HK$4 million Sha Tin Trophy (1600m), the HK$23 million Group 1 Longines Hong Kong Mile (1600m), the HK$10 million Group 1 Queen’s Silver Jubilee Cup (1400m), and the HK$18 million Group 1 Champions Mile (1600m).

Trained by John Moore for owner Patrick Kwok Ho Chuen, Beauty Generation amassed HK$33.66 million (NZ$6.34 million) in prize-money this season – more than 100 times his purchase price at the 2014 Select Sale.

In addition to the Horse of the Year title, the Nearco Stud-bred Beauty Generation was also named Hong Kong’s Champion Miler.

The award for Champion Griffin went to Pick Number One (NZ) (Darci Brahma), who was bred by Luigi Muollo’s Explosive Breeding Ltd and fell short of his $80,000 reserve in two trips through the Karaka sale ring in 2016 – the Premier Sale and the Ready to Run Sale.

Trained by Danny Shum for owner Yo Mo Man, the three-year-old began his Hong Kong racing career this season with five impressive wins from seven starts and more than HK$4.74 million (NZ$890,000) in stakes.
