$10,000 Bonus This Saturday

8 January 2004

This Saturday the Avondale Jockey Club plays host to the first $10,000 Mercedes Super Bonus of the New Year.

Race One on the card is the New Zealand Bloodstock Mercedes Bonus 2YO 1200m. The field has only one runner Hotspurs (Volksraad x Spurs) eligible for the bonus.

This race, despite the small field should be an interesting and even contest with every runner having their first race day start.

Takanini trainer Trevor McKee races Hotspurs, a $36,000 purchase at the 2003 Select Colts Sale from the draft of Lyndhurst Farm.

The field also includes the 2003 New Zealand Bloodstock Ready to Run sale topper Baja (Flying Spur x Joy). Baja was a $300,000 purchase by Rob McAnulty for the San Luis syndicate and is the half brother to top Australian galloper and Gr. 2 winner Thorn Park.

We are now only three weeks away from the $500,000 Mercedes Two-year-old Classique to be run at the Te Rapa racecourse on the 31st January 2004.
