Don't Miss Tomorrow's Winter Mixed Sale

2 August 2012

Buyers looking to secure quality breeding opportunities for the up and coming breeding season will have plenty to choose from at New Zealand Bloodstock's Winter Mixed Bloodstock Sale which starts tomorrow at midday.

With a catalogue of 75 horses and an additional 31 supplementary entries, the Winter Mixed Bloodstock Sale will offer a number of well-bred mares, many of which have been served by some of New Zealand's leading stallions.

Included in the 41 broodmares on offer is the Zabeel mare Be Inspired at Lot 8. A well-related mare, Be Inspired is a sister to Group 3 winner Rainbow Styling and half-sister to Group 3 winner Zingaling (Redoute's Choice).

Be Inspired's Duporth colt topped the first day of the Weanling session at this year's National Weanling, Broodmare & Mixed Bloodstock Sale when purchased by Lyndhurst Farm for $105,000. The mare has been served by the Group 2 winning English sprinter Showcasing who will see his first southern hemisphere foals born this season.

The Winter Mixed Bloodstock Sale will offer three stakes winning racemares including Holy Moly (Holy Roman Emperor) who is being sold as a racing and breeding proposition at Lot 66.

Holy Moly is out of the Zabeel mare Clarissa and had a successful 2011/12 season for her trainer Roger James winning the Listed Soliloquy Stakes at Ellerslie and running third in the Group 3 James & Annie Sarten Memorial Stakes.

Other stakes winning mares to be offered are the Bertolini mare Italian Princess at Lot 19 who won the Listed Counties Bowl and Mydiamond Bracelet (Al Akbar) at Lot 26 who won the Listed Turf Sprint Handicap.

Blue-blooded mare Shutout will be offered for sale as a racing and breeding proposition at Lot 74. A daughter of the champion sire Redoute's Choice, she is from the Group 2 Winter Stakes winning mare La Sizeranne (Stravinsky) and has raced just six times for a win and two placings.

Ocean of Tears

Ocean of Tears produced a Henrythenavigator colt last year and has been served by Darci Brahma who has a full book for the 2012 season. Her half-sister Ulmer (Carnegie) was served by High Chaparral in 2011 with another half-sister - Luna Belle (Stravinsky) - served by Redoute's Choice.

With mares in foal to sires including Any Suggestion, Darci Brahma, Iffraaj, Mastercraftsman, Sakhee's Secret, Savabeel, Showcasing, Sir Percy and more, other highlights include:

  • Hurricane Sky at Lot 17, a half-sister to American Group 3 winner (Our) Nautique (Pins) and Trocair (Flying Spur) - dam of Group 2 winner Tullamore(Savabeel). Hurricane Sky has been served by Savabeel making any resulting progeny a three-quarter-sibling to Tullamore.
