Entries for New Zealand Bloodstock’s South Island Sale are now open, with the Sale set to be held on NZB’s online subsidiary Gavelhouse Plus for the second year in a row.

As a result of the pandemic, NZB made the decision to develop a premium online auction platform, with last year’s South Island Sale seeing its first-ever online session conclude on Gavelhouse Plus.

With a selection of progeny from leading southern sires, out of New Zealand-bred mares, the South Island Sale highlights the unique characteristics that are abound in the southern product.

Quality Southern-breds continue to showcase their versatility and durability on the international stage, with southern raiders Etah James (NZ) (Raise the Flag) and The Chosen One (NZ) (Savabeel) celebrating a dream result in the 2020 A$1 million Group One Sydney Cup (3200m) at Randwick after winning and placing second respectively.

All South Island Sale stock will be inspected by NZB agents, with New Zealand-based agents also available to inspect on behalf of prospective buyers who cannot physically attended the Sale.

The catalogue is set to go live on Gavelhouse Plus on Monday 29 March, with bidding available from Monday 12 April and the first lot closing incrementally from 7PM (NZT) on Wednesday 14 April.

The South Island Sale will operate under usual NZB terms and conditions, allowing selling to registered bidders only and paying the vendor out as it would a traditional auction.

Entries for the South Island Sale are open from today and will close on 17 March 2021 at 5PM.

Entries for NZB’s dedicated weanling only sale are now open, set to be held as a physical sale at the Karaka Sales Centre on Friday 14 May.

Star NZB weanling graduates include Group One Tarzino Trophy winner Callsign Mav (NZ) (Atlante), a $3,000 weanling purchase and Jennifer Eccles (NZ) (Rip Van Winkle), who was crowned NZB Filly of the Year for 2019-20 and has earned $509,650 in stakes – more than 101 times her $5,000 purchase price.

Given the unlikely chance of a trans-Tasman travel bubble, weanlings offered in the 2021 session at Karaka will be in high demand by astute New Zealand-based pinhookers.

Set to take place in one centralised location, this year’s weanling only sale will provide a great opportunity for domestic buyers to inspect and bid on horses.

NZB’s online bidding services will also be available, giving international buyers the chance to access a unique offering of quality juveniles and obtaining first-hand access to a number of New Zealand-based first season sires.

Entries for the National Weanling Sale are open from today and will close on Friday 5 March 2021 at 5PM.
