Showcasing the best Southern-bred product, NZB's South Island Yearling Sale is set to be held again on Gavelhouse Plus, commencing 14 April 2021.
Unlike any other racing nation, the rugged terrain, cool artic environments and mineral-rich soils in the South Island of New Zealand gives the Southern-born and raised thoroughbred strength and stamina, reinforcing their immense staying power.
The pristine environment that runs the breadth of the South Island has become the home of an enviable product, with the quality Southern-breds like Group One winners Etah James (NZ) and The Chosen One (NZ) continuing to showcase their versatility and durability to perform on the international stage.
The 2020 edition was the first-ever NZB Sale debuted on Gavelhouse Plus, allowing vendors and buyers to confidently operate under the terms of a traditional auction. All unbroken yearlings offered through the 2021 South Island Sale on Gavelhouse Plus
are eligible to be nominated for NZB’s lucrative Karaka Million Series
. Just 12 short months after they make their virtual sale-ring debut, graduates of the online sale can compete for a share in the $1m Doubletree by Hilton Karaka Million 2YO (1200m), followed by the $1m Karaka Million 3YO Classic (1600m) and $100,000 CollinsonForex Karaka Cup (2200m) for the remainder of their careers.
