Flying Firebird Smashes Race Record

Impressive two-year-old filly Flying Firebird (Stravinsky x Hairini by Zabeel) smashed the 1000m-race record on Friday 27th February winning the Lightning Bridge Plate at Canberra by 4 lengths.

Flying Firebird, who won on Friday in a time of 58.08, is already a stakes winner having taken out the Listed Adams Platform Stakes, on Oaks Day at Flemington. Flying Firebird's has fashioned a record that includes two wins and two placing's for $87,300 prize-money from just five starts.

The exciting filly will have her next start in the Gr. 3 Sayers Black Opal Stakes at Canberra in just under two weeks time. Sydney jockey Jim Cassidy has been engaged for the ride.

New Zealand Bloodstock sold Flying Firebird at the 2003 Select Fillies Sale. Trans-Tasman trainer Graeme Rogerson purchased her from the draft of Trelawney Stud for $38,000.

Flying Firebird's win highlights the success of Cambridge Stud based sire Stravinsky, whose southern hemisphere bred progeny have been going from strength to strength. His son, Oratorio is the winner of the $400,000 Magic Millions Adelaide 2YO Classic over 1200m and is a stakes winner in both Melbourne and Brisbane.
