Lot 320, a full brother to Hill of Grace and Renewable

The colt, Lot 320, by sire phenomenon Zabeel is a sibling of no less than nine winners being a son of two-time winning Last Tycoon mare Carmel Valley, the best of these clearly is Hill of Grace.

It is quite easy to forget how good Hill of Grace really was. A Group 1 winner at three in the STC Ansett Stakes (2000m), Hill of Grace's five career wins also included the Group 2 Moonee Valley Oaks (beating Grand Echezeaux) but it was mainly due to her superb Group 1 placings that her stakes earnings net nearly $2,000,000.

Hill of Grace's race record highlights the quality of opposition she faced race-day. Second placings in the Group 1 NZ Derby (long neck behind Hades), the Group 1 NZ Oaks (short neck behind She's Country), the Group 1 Ranvet Stakes (half a length behind Tie the Knot), the Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes (half a length behind La Bella Dama), and the Group 2 Sandown Classic (a length behind Hail) show exceptional a racehorse needed to be todefeat Hill of Grace.

Third or fourth placings in the Group 1 Singapore International Cup (behind the likes of Jim and Tonic), the Group 1 Yalumba Stakes (behind Northerly, Shogun Lodge, and Ethereal), the Group 1 Caulfield Cup (behind Ethereal and Sky Heights), and the Group 1 Oaks Stud Classic (behind Giovana and La Bella Dama) show her quality also.

Renewable, a full-brother to Hill of Grace and Lot 320, was talented too in the Lloyd Williams colours. Winning three of his first four starts including the Group 3 Autumn Classic, Renewable unfortunately was injured shortly after but to his credit returned to win two more races after two years off the scene, finally netting A$400,000 in 16 starts.

The colt at Lot 320 clearly represents a very successful cross and will no doubt find many admirers at Karaka before he sells on the second day of the Premier Sale next Tuesday.

Trelawney Stud 's exceptional draft can be viewed at Barn E daily.
