High Chaparral to Play Big Hand at Karaka

24 January 2013

With his sons and daughters running red hot, theres much to look forward to from the significant representation of super-sire High Chaparral at Karaka 2013.

The High Chaparral cross with New Zealand mares during the Coolmore Stud sires five seasons in New Zealand proved mighty, producing the likes of global sensation So You Think (NZ) and this seasons Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes winner (Its A) Dundeel (NZ).

The result, notwithstanding his new home in Australia since 2010, was a huge patronage by New Zealand breeders and a considerable representation of 28 yearlings at Karaka next week.

High Chaparrals sale ring prominence has been apparent for a few years now. Karaka 2011 kicked off with a bang with the very first lot a colt by High Chaparral from the Sir Tristram mare Queen Caelia being purchased by Surf Coast Racing from Windsor Park Stud for $600,000.

That colt is now called High Shot (NZ) and his only start thus far at Cranbourne in October was simply exceptional and has left many wondering just how good this three-year-old is. Click hereto view the replay. Windsor Park will offer a brother to High Shot at Lot 303.

Last year High Chaparrals yearlings were also in hot demand, with 57 lots at Karaka 2012 selling for an average of $181,000.

Karaka 2013 will once again open with a yearling by High Chaparral at Lot 1 the filly from the Zabeel mare Abeel Hostess one of eight High Chaparral yearlings in the Sale from Zabeel mares. • The colt from the family of Mosheen and Might and Power (Lot 97).
