Sea Lord Red Hot Ahead of Karaka 2013

26 January 2013

Making it a perfect four from four at Moonee Valley, Sea Lord put in a tough front-running performance when he took out last night’s $220,000 Group 2 Essendon Mazda Australia Stakes (1200m).

Ridden by Luke Currie, Sea Lord (Street Cry x Dream Lass) used his ace barrier draw to full advantage, holding the inside to lead in the first 200m. He didn’t have it all his own way though as he was attacked by Pinwheel (Lonhro) and Undeniably (Fastnet Rock) in the middle stages, but still found an impressive kick to win in good fashion.

Coming into the race on the back of a second place to race rival Undeniably at Caulfield before Christmas, the win provided Stephen Brown with some nice black type after moving to the competitive Melbourne training ranks earlier in the season.

Sea Lord was bought by Les Samba for NZ$400,000 at the 2009 Karaka Premier Sale from Seaton Park.  He is now the winner of seven races and over A$500,000 after last night’s win, his first at Group level.

Seaton Park will offer 6 yearlings at the Karaka Premier Sale starting this Monday 28 January, including Lot 196 out of Group 2 Eight Carat Classic winner Kainui Belle (Kashani).

Street Cry will be represented by 3 yearlings at Karaka 2013 including Lot 318, a half-brother to Group 1 VRC Oaks winner Serenade Rose (Stravinsky).

Ticket sales for the Karaka Million this Sunday 27 January are still available with the first race starting at 5:09pm and $1 Million (Res.L) Karaka Million being run at 7:15pm.
