Less Than One Week To Ready to Run Sale

14 November 2006

Over 330 athletic, well-educated two-year-olds are due to go under the hammer next week at Karaka when New Zealand Bloodstock's two-day Ready to Run Sale of Two-Year-Olds commences on Tuesday 21 November.

Horses will arrive at the complex over the weekend with all horses stabled on the grounds by Sunday afternoon ready for inspection by potential buyers.

The Sale has proven its worth over the years with graduates such as dual Group 1 winner Perlin, and other Group winners Marju Snip, Century Kid, Torless, Bodie and San Luis to name a few.

Other graduates to perform recently include All's Well in Hong Kong, and Robbins in Singapore. Graduates of last year's Sale include Brendel, Magic Cape and Electrostatic, with all three having achieved black type success in New Zealand. The 2004 sale topper, Able One, is already the winner of three races in Australia and Hong Kong, amassing over HK$1,300,000 in prize money.

Progeny of Group 1 winners, Dolcezza and Maurine, will be represented, as will close relations to last season's NZ Champion Sprinter/Miler, Gee I Jane, and the NZ Champion Two-Year-Old, Jokers Wild.

A gelding out of G1 STC Canterbury Guineas winner, Dolcezza, by the son of Zabeel, Don Eduardo, will be presented at the sale by Lyndhurst Farm.

The colt out of dual Group 1 winner, Maurine, will be the sole entrant by New Zealand super-sire Zabeel. He will be presented by Timberlee Thoroughbreds (located in Box K375) on behalf of Blandford Lodge.

The half-sister to Gee I Jane, Miss Jessie Jay - herself a Group 3 winner - will be represented with a colt by Spectatorial. He is consigned by Shelby Park.

New Zealand Bloodstock General Manager, Andrew Seabrook, is optimistic about the upcoming Sale. "The standard of this Sale continues to improve each year. There are some very well-related individuals entered and some exciting types - this was evident at the Breeze Ups last month. New Zealand Bloodstock personnel have been canvassing buyers in Australia, Hong Kong, Korea, Macau, Malaysia, Philippines and Singapore during the last few months for the Sale and we are confident the Sale will be a success."

Significant updates to the catalogue, since it went to print, include:

Lot 55 - A colt by Volksraad ex Cape City (by Kaapstad): Half-brother Magic Cape (by Magic Albert) - also a Karaka Ready to Run graduate - stamped his perfect two-year-old record with a stakes placing last month at Ellerslie in the Bonecrusher Stakes (1400m). The colt will be offered by Woodridge Farm.

Lot 94 - A gelding by Stark South ex Dupre (by Masterclass): Half-brother Purde (by Bahhare) is now Group 2 placed, with a third in the Winning Edge Presentation Stakes (2400m) at Caulfield in October. The gelding will be consigned by Sebas Farm.

Lot 201- A colt by Don Eduardo ex Miss Rory (by Rory's Jester): This colt is a half-brother to last season's NZ Champion Two-Year-Old, Jokers Wild (by Black Minnaloushe). The three-year-old has stamped last season's form with wins in both the Hawkes Bay Guineas (1400m) and Wellington Guineas (1600m) last month, both at Group 2 level, and is heading for his seventh straight win in the Group 1 First Sovereign Trust Two Thousand Guineas (1600m) on Saturday. The colt is from the draft of Esker Lodge (As Agent).

Lot 205 - A gelding by Strategic Image ex Moss Arising (by He is Risen): Moss Arising is a half-sister to Ballermoss, the dam of Sphenophyta (by Groom Dancer). He was the winner of the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) at Flemington in October. The gelding will be offered by Sir James Lodge Ltd (As Agent).

Lot 315 - A filly by Deputy Governor ex The Essence (by Voltage Peak): Her full-brother Excellent Boy has won a further two races since the catalogue went to print, both at Class 2 level in Hong Kong. He has now had six wins from twelve starts. The filly is from the draft of Chequers Stud.

Lot 325 - A gelding by Indian Danehill ex Umhlanga Rocks (by Sound Reason): The dam is a half-sister to the dam of dual Group winning King of Ashford (by His Royal Highness), who ran second in the Group 3 Coongy Handicap (2000m) at Caulfield last month. He will be offered by Kaipira Lodge.
