Lowland Moves to Hastings

8 October 2004

Race fans could be in for a case of dj vu this weekend as the New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year Series returns to Hasting Racecourse for the Group 3 Indian Danehill Lowland Stakes (1400m). Masterton RC decided to move their meeting earlier in the week due to poor track conditions at Trentham.

Trainers Mike Moroney & Andrew Scott will certainly be hoping for a repeat of events come Saturday. Their duo, Eloa (Volksraad) and Clean Sweep (End Sweep) quinellered the first race in the series, the Highview Stakes, at Hastings three weeks ago and look set to be hard to beat again this week.

The biggest threat to these two fillies is the Graham Richardson & Mark Donoghue trained Sista (Magic Of Sydney) who won the Listed Carters Wanganui Guineas in early September and followed up with a win at Ellerslie two weeks ago.

The points table going in to the second race of the Series is:

Eloa 6
Clean Sweep 3
Sheka 1.5

The next race in the Filly of the Year Series, the Group 1 New Zealand Bloodstock 1000 Guineas, will be held next month on 6 November at Canterbury Jockey Club.
