Mark Todd and Team Win Two Bronze Medals

4 October 2010

New Zealand has won two bronze medals in the three-day event at the World Equestrian Games in Kentucky overnight.

New Zealand's Andrew Nicholson and Nereo went clear in the final day of the event to register success in both the teams and the individual event.

Nicholson put on a wonderful display of show jumping taking him from fifth to third in the individual standings.

The success began earlier in the day with Mark Todd going clear with Grass Valley and later Caroline Powell and Mac MacDonald finishing with only one fault a piece.

A delighted Nicholson was full of praise for Nereo after the event.

"He's so good and consistent in all three phases and I have great confidence in him."

"I hoped for an individual medal, and to finish in the top five as a team, so to get a team bronze as well is a bonus."

The success is fantastic for Mark Todd who made his reappearance in Kentucky 32 years after his international debut. The medals are also an added bonus for the team who are well on track for the 2012 London Olympics.

New Zealand Bloodstock Ltd, who sponsored Mark's campaign to the 2008 Beijing Olympics, continues to support him in his next Olympic quest for the Games in London 2012.
