NZB National Weanling & Broodmare Catalogues Out Now

New Zealand Bloodstock's 2011 National Weanling, Broodmare & Mixed Bloodstock Sale (2 - 4 May) is set to offer a bumper melting pot of breeding, racing and pinhooking opportunities, with 817 entries - one of the largest catalogues ever presented.

The Sales gets underway with the 2011 Weanling session of 370 entries. This session looks primed to build on the excellent opportunities buyers were offered in 2010, where weanlings averaged only $11,388. Many of those were weanlings pinhooked for the 2011 Karaka Yearling Sales providing substantial returns for investors.

Among the pinhooking highlights at Karaka 2011 was the Iffraaj colt which was bought for $40,000 by Anistay Lodge from the 2010 May Sale (Lot 367). The colt was offered by Anistay Lodge at the 2011 Karaka Premier Sale and purchased by the Melbourne Cup winning trainer Mark Kavanagh for $300,000.

Buyers looking to emulate these results will have a lot to look forward to, including from these highlights:

� Six weanlings by Australasian super-sire High Chaparral.

� The colt by the Cox Plate winning son of Zabeel in Savabeel and a three-quarter-brother to the Group 1 Cox Plate winner Maldivian (Zabeel) at Lot 33.

� Half-sister to the dual Group 1 winner Kristov (Lot 14 by Hawkeye) and half-brother to Group 1 winner The Mighty Lions (Grosvenor) (Lot 303 by Duelled).

� Lot 315, the colt by Encosta de Lago from Miss Opera (Paris Opera), a half-brother to the multiple Group 1 winner Sir Slick (Volksraad).

� Lot 321, the filly by Viking Ruler from a winning half-sister to Monroe Magic, dam of Group 1 winners Headturner (Anabaa), Anacheeva (Anabaa) and Group 2 winner Kroner (Viking Ruler).

� Lot 366, one of 12 entries by the leading first season sire at Karaka 2011 in Iffraaj, the colt from Princess Alea, a half-sister to the Group 1 winner Russian Pearl (Soviet Star) and the dam of the stakes-placed The Lucky Steed.

In addition to proven sires such as Keeper, No Excuse Needed, O'Reilly, Pentire, Pins, Stravinsky, Thorn Park, Towkay and Volksraad represented, the progeny of first season sires Alamosa, Eighth Wonder, El Hermano, Fully Fledged, Guillotine, Murtajill, Mutawaajid, Rios, Sakhee's Secret and Sir Percy will be making their Karaka sale ring debut.

The 2011 May Sale will also feature the inaugural Horses-in-Training session dedicated to horses that have raced, trialled or breezed up for the NZB Ready to Run Sale during the current season.

The new HIT session boasts a strong line up of 49 entries, with some significant opportunities for those looking to couple racing interests with future stallion and broodmare prospects. Each entry in this session has a video clip of their track performance on the NZB website.

Amongst the 49 entries for the Horses-in-Training session are:

� Lot 396, the Sadler's Wells entire Doctor Fremantle (ex Summer Breeze, by Rainbow Quest), winner of the Group 2 Newmarket Princess of Wales Stakes at Newmarket. Being offered by Haunui Farm, he is the full brother to the stakes placed Summer Shower, and his Group placed dam Summer Breeze is a sister to the Group 1 winners Raintrap and Sunshack.

� Lot 399, the Thorn Park mare Glamorous Girl, winner of the Group 3 Desert Gold Stakes at three, she is a half-sister to the promising filly So Elusive (Elusive City) from the young mare J'Lo (Unbridled Song).

The 2011 Broodmare session sees a number of well-bred and well-performed mares both on the track and at stud set for auction. Amongst 295 broodmares on offer are entries by Centaine, Cape Cross, Danehill, Flying Spur, Last Tycoon, Royal Academy, Star Way and Zabeel.

Some of the broodmare highlights include:

� Lot 448, the Volksraad mare Showgirl (Show Belle by Sir Tristram), a five-time winner and twice Group 2 placed, she has been served by Europe's 2009/10 Champion First Season Sire Iffraaj.

� Lot 451, the Danzig mare Shynzi, the daughter of the four time Listed winning mare Shywing (Wing Out) and the Dam of the Cox Plate, Yalumba Stakes and CF Orr Stakes winner Maldivian (Zabeel). She has been served by Savabeel.

� Lot 454, the Group 1 placed mare by Centaine in Snobbish, dam of the stakes placed Prickle and the Group 3 placed Legsman. She has been served by first season sire Rios.

� Lot 589, the Gone West mare Down View (Farlight Down by Dayjur), the dam of the sensational Singapore performer Mexican Rose (Volksraad), who has been served by first season covering sire Mastercraftsman, the Champion 2YO colt in England & Ireland in 2008.

First season covering sires include Buffalo Man, Mastercraftsman, Nom de Jue, Red Giant, Road to Rock, Roc de Cambes, Sufficient, Swiss Ace and The Way You Are.

The catalogue also features yearlings (51), two-year-olds (24), unraced stock (10), racehorses (16) and one stallion share. Amongst them the highlights include:

� Lot 736, the yearling colt by No Excuse Needed from Carla Rossi, the dam of the Group 2 winner Gallopin (Pins).

� Lot 740, the yearling colt by Iffraaj from the Dance Floor mare Clinique, a half-sister to the Group 2 winner Ferragamo (Success Express) and the stakes winner National Treasure (Zabeel), he is the half-brother to the Group 3 winning sprinter Ahdashim (Elusive City).

� Lot 743, the yearling filly by Savabeel from the Volksraad mare Dance on Fire, the dam of the Group 2 winner Fire Song (Senor Pete) and seven-time winner Dancing Song.

� Lot 750, the colt by One Cool Cat from Gilded Light, a half-brother to the Group 1 New Zealand Oaks winner Midnight Oil (Keeper).

� Lot 758, the filly by Keeper from the Bletchingly mare Joyfulness, a daughter of the prolific producer Denise's Joy and a half-sister to the Group 1 winner Joie Denise (Seventh Hussar), the dam of Group 1 winners Tuesday Joy (Carnegie)and Sunday Joy (Sunday Silence), the dam of More Joyous (More Than Ready).

� Lot 784, the two-year-old gelding by One Cool Cat from the stakes winning Sir Tristram mare Gimmick, a half-brother to the Group 1 winning two-year-old Linky Dink (Keeper).

The Sale will see a share in the Group 1 winning son of More Than Ready in Perfectly Ready (ex Elle Duccio by Danehill). Currently New Zealand's leading first season sire, his progeny include the stakes placed two-year-olds Queen Boudicca, Precise, Beejay Belle, Brackenwood, and the Australian stakes placed Isle be Ready who ran a smart debut behind the unbeaten colt and leading Golden Slipper chance Smart Missile in the Listed NSW Breeders Plate.

 The 2011 May Sale will also include Dormello Stud's Unreserved Dispersal Sale featuring 119 lots including weanlings, broodmares, yearlings, two-year-olds and racehorses. Graeme Rogerson and Denise Howell's Hamilton-based Stud will be offering a selection of progeny by the exciting young sire Savabeel and the young MVRC AAMI Vase winning son of Redoute's Choice in Duelled amongst their entries.

There are also drafts being offered on an unreserved basis from Goodwood Stud, The Oaks Stud and Waikato Stud.
