Next month’s New Zealand Bloodstock South Island Sale is fast approaching and today it received a boost with the addition of an O’Reilly colt entered as a supplementary lot by Pear Tree Farm Agistment.

Catalogued at Lot 95, the yearling colt is by outstanding sire O’Reilly out of the Redoute’s Choice mare Bronte Walk. He will be sold at the end of the Yearling Session after Lot 89.

With 94 lots in the main catalogue, yearlings make up the largest percentage of the South Island Sale with the National Yearling Sales Series: South Island Session opening the day’s selling with 89 yearlings featured. The mixed bloodstock session of the Sale includes one two-year-old and four broodmares.

Among the yearlings catalogued are:

  • Lot 24 - a colt by the young South Island-based son of Fastnet Rock, Highly Recommended, and half-brother to current Singapore-based winners Million Round (Edenwold) and Astrojet (Coats Choice).
  • Lot 31 – a filly by boom sire Tavistock, sire of recent Group 1 Rosehill Guineas winner Tarzino.
  • Lot 34 – a filly by popular first season sire Reliable Man whose yearlings sold well at Karaka 2016.
  • Lot 41 – a Mastercraftsman filly out of a full sister to Group 1 winner Orange County.
  • Lot 46 – by exciting young sire Jimmy Choux and a half-brother to Hong Kong stakes performer Regency Dragon.
  • Lot 58 – the first foal of stakes-placed mare Eleanor Coup and by exciting young stallion Swiss Ace.
  • Lot 60 & Lot 80 – both by top young sire Showcasing whose yearlings sold well at Karaka 2016.
  • Lot 68 – a colt by Champion racehorse Ocean Park out of great producing mare Gio.
  • Lot 87 – closely related to now Group 3 placed Volks Lightning and by young Group 1 winning sire Power.

A benefit of the Sale forming part of the National Yearling Sales Series is that it presents the final opportunity this season to purchase yearlings eligible for entry into the lucrative Karaka Million Series. The enhanced Series now features two $1m races with the $1m Karaka Million for two-year-olds in 2017, the enormously boosted $1m Karaka Million 3YO Classic in 2018 and the $100,000 Karaka Stayers’ Cup for the duration of their racing careers.

NZB’s South Island Sale will be held on Friday 15 April from 11am in the Riding for the Disabled Building at the Canterbury Agricultural Park in Christchurch.
