Overall NWB Sale Summary

10 May 2005

New Zealand Bloodstock's National Weanling, Broodmare & Mixed Bloodstock Sale concluded today with the remaining 207 broodmares offered for sale. This followed the Select Weanling, General Weanling and mixed bloodstock sessions on Sunday and Monday, plus the Westbury Stud Unreserved Sale on Friday.

The pattern of the past few days continued throughout today as the competition was evident on the better quality mares, particularly those in foal to promising sires, whereas lower end of the market found it difficult selling.

The aggregate for the broodmare session was $1,495,050 for 170 lots sold, compared with $2,341,650 for 64 more lots sold last year. The average price was $8,794, down from from $10,007 last year. The clearance rate of 76% was down a fraction on last year's clearance of 78.5%.

The top lot of the day was Lot 522 Boston Tea Party (Boston Harbor x Stave (Navajo)) in foal to Faltaat, and purchased by bloodstock agent, Robt Dawe, from Brent & Cherry Taylor's Trelawney Stud for $130,000.

Other highlights were Lot 573 Florette (Sword Dance x Vincesca (Darby Creek Road)) which was bought for $110,000 by New Zealand Bloodstock as agent; Lot 586 Go Norn (Clay Hero x Extrikate (Sir Tristram)), bought for $80,000 in foal to Volksraad by Brent Gillovic's Highview International Ltd; and Lot 559 Dopff (Tights x On the Rise (Crested Wave)), in foal to first season sire, Elusive City, also bought by Highview International Ltd, for $70,000.

The overall results for the National Weanling & Broodmare Sale saw the main sale gross $3,749,950 for 469 lots sold this year, and the Westbury Stud Sale gross $1,428,025 for 258 lots sold. The average was $7,996, down from $9,684 in 2004, and the median was $2,400, also down from $4,750 last year.
