Round Two for New Zealand Bloodstock's Filly of the Year Series

24 September 2010

Saturday sees the running of the second leg of the New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year Series with the Listed $45,000 Soliloquy Lodge Stakes (1400m) at Ellerslie.

Headlining the field of 12 runners is the talented stakes winning O'Reilly filly Dating (ex Mandate).

With a string of bad luck in the running in last week's Group 3 Hawke's Bay Breeders Gold Trail Stakes (1200m), Dating's trainers Debbie & Graeme Rogerson have elected to back her up tomorrow as she hunts her first win in the Series. She is currently sitting in third position on the table with one and a half points but a win would see her take second place in the Series with neither Rememba Howe or Zennista lining up.

Standing in her way is a strong line up of fillies including the winner of last season's Listed Castletown Stakes (1200m) Extra Explosive (Ekraar x Explosive) if trainer Andrew Scott elects to run her here instead of the Geon Bonecrusher Stakes. Coming back to the track after a spell, Extra Explosive would have a strong hand in the race with her record of two wins and a second from four starts. Extra Explosive has won her only start on a heavy track and has had one placing from two fresh up runs.

The Keith and Brendon Hawtin trained Elle Tresor (Le Bec Fin x Spot of Luck) brings great form into the race with two strong performances under her belt this season.  A win fresh up saw her beat fellow runner Fastnet Lady before coming second to last-start Group 3 winner Rememba Howe in the Listed Fordell O'Leary's Fillies Stakes (1200m).

The well bred Fastnet Rock filly Fastnet Lady (ex Essence) also carries good form into the race. Her three runs back from a spell have resulted in a win, a second to Elle Tresor and a strong last start forth in the HS Dyke Wanganui Guineas (1340m) against the boys. She also has heavy track form and adds to an intriguing line up.

Cool Storm (ex Flying Free) and Cool Cruising (ex Deebee) are both representing One Cool Cat, both come off last start wins, and are both facing their first attempt over 1400 metres.

Murray and Bjorn Baker's Lady Kipling (Savabeel x Akela) has been freshened for the race and showed real ability as a two-year-old, in her last she earned her first win taking her stats to three starts for one win and two placings. With the 1400 metres likely to suit, connections will be keen to see her notch up some points in the Series.

Disdain, the well bred filly by High Chaparral out of Pentire mare, Risible, comes to the race looking for her first win after two starts for two placings. The filly has shown real ability so far and the way High Chaparral is going, she will be one to watch.

Other runners include race winners Shahla (Rusty Spur x Silk Purse), Starcraft filly Singapore Sling (ex Gin Sling), Keenly (keeninsky x Marlena) who will be making her first race day appearance, and Pins filly Voodo (ex Sapphire) who will be looking to improve after a good fresh up run last start.

The second leg of the New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year Series, the Listed $45,000 Soliloquy Lodge Stakes holds four points for the race winner, two points for second and one point for third. The race is set for 3:36pm at Ellerslie.
