Super Hong Kong Win For Super Brose

3 April 2003

The New Zealand bred Super Brose (Gold Brose x Queen Guinevere) is emerging as a potential Hong Kong star in the making after an easy victory in last night's richest race at Happy Valley, the HK$1,000,000 Begonia Handicap (1000m, Class 2).

The three year old Gold Brose gelding was simply too good for his rivals, defeating the Australian breds Joy Joy Fay (Umatilla x Sandbagger) and Run and Win (Last Tycoon x Virage) by a very comfortable two and three quarter lengths over the sprint distance.

The talented Super Brose has now amassed a near perfect race record of three wins and a second from four starts. He is trained by Tony Cruz.

A number of other New Zealand horses were placed in their races at Happy Valley, including Hail Winner (Kreisler x Lonsdale Lass), Sweetie (The Jogger x Taxeez Girl), Wonderful Life (Wallenda x Vanipure) and Ricardo (Kaapstad x Falcons Wing).

Hail Winner and Sweetie were second and third respectively in the HK$500,000 Wistaria Handicap (1800m, Class 5). Sweetie was purchased by G J McKenzie at the 2000 New Zealand Bloodstock Festival Sale for $11,000 from the draft of Tainui Farm.

Wonderful Life and Ricardo also ran second and third in their race, the HK$570,000 Osmanthus Handicap (1650m, Class 4). Ricardo was purchased at the 2000 New Zealand Bloodstock Premier Sale for $65,000 by Joe Barnes also from the draft of Tainui Farm.
