Talented Taatletail Too Good In Gr.3 Lowland Stakes

13 October 2003

Taatletail took out the second leg of the 2003-04 New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year Series in fine style on Saturday with an impressive win in the Gr.3 Indian Danehill Lowland Stakes at the Masterton Racing Club meeting at Trentham.

Trained by Graeme Rogerson and Stephen Autridge, Taatletail (Faltaat x Defensive Lady) completed the 1400m journey 2 lengths clear of second placed filly, the Dick and Chris Bothwell trained Danette (Danske x Amynette), with Clifton (Bahhare x Instantly), trained by John Sargent and Karl Allpress a further 1 lengths back in third.

The heavy track conditions proved to be no barrier for the filly who, after also winning the first leg of the Filly of the Year Series, the Gr.3 Highview Stakes last month, now tops the Filly of the Year points table with 12 points ahead of Danette with 3 points and Rapid Kay, also with 3 points.

Owned by Peter Glover, Paola Meo, Stephen Just, Brian Forster, Dean McLuckie and Graeme Rogerson, Taatletail kept up her winning streak for her owners having had four starts for four wins.

Bred at Trelawney stud by Macau based Ms Deborah Ho, Taatletail may now be aimed at the Gr.1 New Zealand Bloodstock One Thousand Guineas on 8 November. With the One Thousand Guineas also a part of the New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year Series, a win in this would give Taatletail a further 12 points in the prestigious Series making her a difficult filly to beat to the title.

After the running of the Gr.3 Indian Danehill Lowland Stakes the point's table for the New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year Series currently stands as follows:
Taatletail 12
Danette 3
Rapid Kay 3
Clifton 1.5
Pay My Bail 1.5

The next race in the series is the Listed Goldstar Soliloquy Stakes at the Auckland Racing Club on Saturday 25 October.
