Miss Aotearoa (NZ) (Per Incanto) emerged as a budding star of her generation when the 2020-21 New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year Series kicked off in Saturday’s $70,000 Group Three Hawke’s Bay Breeders Gold Trail Stakes (1200m) at Hastings.

There were nine winners among this year’s particularly talented line-up, with several big reputations and high expectations for the season ahead.

New Zealand Bloodstock has confirmed dates for their new NZB Ready to Run Sale race sponsorships and incentivised prize package for domestic trainers over the duration of spring.

The next race in the series is the $70,000 Group Three NZB Ready to Run Sale Trainers Series (1400m), held as race three on 26 September at New Plymouth Raceway.

Karaka graduate Crosshaven (Smart Missile) booked his ticket to the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) with an emphatic win in Saturday’s A$140,000 Listed Antler Luggage Exford Plate (1400m) at Flemington.

An $80,000 purchase from Book 1 of Karaka 2019, Crosshaven has now won three of his four starts and A$154,588 in stakes. His only defeat was a luckless last-start sixth in the Group Three HDF McNeil Stakes (1200m), where trainers Tom Dabernig and Ben Hayes believe he would have gone close to winning if he had not been checked in the last 150 metres.

NZB to Host National Yearling Sale in Traditional January Timeslot

New Zealand Bloodstock has today announced that the 95th National Yearling Sales Series will be held in the original timeslot in January next year.

While a secondary April date was initially set aside to allow for travel restrictions to ease; with the ongoing COVID-19 outbreaks, non-confidence from government and airlines and the lack of certainty that any change should amount between now and April, the decision was made not to delay the Sale.
